"What do you call .... ?"

“What do you call … ?”
I keep seeing people use “How do you call … ?” questions here on other language learning platform, both in discussions and in answers.

If you’re asking for the name of something/someone, “what” is the correct word to use in English.

There are contexts where “How do you call” questions are valid, but these differ from “What” questions. Let me show you an example for programmers:

“What do you call this function?” “I call it find the largest prime number.”

“How do you call this function?” “I call it with an integer as the only parameter.”

Back in the day on the other (now defunct) platform I got highly interesting and enlightening responses and comments.
